Oracle Application Server 10g Web Development (Oracle Press)Books: Computers: Dom Scripting: Item 5
Works for me! , May 30, 2006 Reviewer:Dominic Sputo (Florida) - I used this book to deploy Oracle 10g Applications through Oracle Developer Suite 10g and JDeveloper 10g. I felt that it was a good book and overall I have little ill to say about it. The examples are well written and do a good job of reinforcing what you read in the chapter. You read a little then do an example, then read some more, then add to the example and so on. You don't need any Programming experience to use this book just a decent understanding of programming logic. The only criticism I could offer is that the editor should have used arrows when content is being continued on a new line for reasons of page space so that readers will know and understand (beginners can have trouble with this). It's a good book for learning Oracle 10g Applications as a whole from the ground up and for this reason it's worth the money. It's not an overnight crash course (if that is what you are looking for). Product Review Books-On-Line : Oracle Application Server 10G is an integrated suite of middleware technology designed to help build Enterprise Applications, Web Sites and Web Services, Enterprise Portals, business Processes, business Intelligence, and other systems. Wow! It used to be that a database was just that, a thing that you fed data and it gave it back when you politely asked (I say politely because you had to talk its language, SQL, and you had to talk it fairly precisely or it just gave you some incomprehensible rejection notice.) Now the database has become almost a complete business environment. The Oracle Application Server contains a web server (based on Apache), a web portal, Wireless connectivity, Forms, Java 2 Enterprise Edition, all kinds of management and security routines, and more. This book is primarily a Web Development book. That is, it uses virtually all of the parts of the Oracle Application Server with a view to presenting information on the web. Probably this is because so many business applications are now being written with a view of using the web as the standard interface into the business system. Beyond that, however, this book actually covers nearly every aspect of the Application Server. The book includes things such as using Java in the Oracle Database along with the JDeveloper IDE. Many of these subjects have books written about them alone. Here in one volume is a complete introduction to just about everything you could possibly use to produce any business system needed using the Oracle system, and it's the most complete approach that I've found.
