This book is "post-bust"--the first book to thoroughly discuss the critical link between "process," information technology, and the Internet.
Product Review
"This book is a must-read for every business manager who wants to manage business process change in an e-business environment; it's a true practitioner's guidebook to the complex world of end-to-end business process management. The book not only gives an excellent introduction to all aspects of process change management (from analysis or redesign to implementation to monitoring to improvement of business processes), but also provides a comprehensive guide to state-of-the-art techniques and technologies supporting the various aspects of this process (from process design methodologies to realizing business processes via choreography of Web services)."Steve Mill, Senior Vice President, IBM software Group
"Finally a book that brings it all togetherbackground, theory, and practicein a way that is easily digested by business and IT managers alike. This book is a must-read for anyone contemplating a business change project in order that they understand why a holistic approach is beneficial and how the work they are undertaking will impact others. "The concepts and notations presented in the book are straightforward and easy to follow and do not require either weeks of training or an army of outside consultants to help implement them. I feel sure that after reading the book, any manager will come away with two lasting impressions: first, "Now I understand where that fits . . ." and "Yes, I can do it.""Mark McGregor, Vice President, MEGA International
"Finally, someone has written a practical guide for those building a business for the information age."Bill Coleman, Founder, Chairman, CSO, BEA Systems
"When it comes to business Process Change, Paul Harmon"s new book is a must-read. It is a great resource for performance improvement professionals."Dr. Roger M. Addison, Director Performance Technologies, International Society for Performance Improvement
"A great deal has been written about process improvement and business process reengineering, most before its presumed demise and recent resurrection. Much has been written about the Internet and e-business, most before the tech bubble. This book is "post-bust"; it is the first book to thoroughly discuss the critical link between "process," information technology, and the Internetall things that managers must understand if they are to develop and manage sound internal operations that will provide legitimate profits. And it is the manager"s job to do that. Some of the technical work must be done by business process consultants and IT staff, but the setting of the direction and requirements, the management of the integrating efforts, must be done by managers. That critical role cannot be delegated to the "techies." Meeting that management challenge will be made easier by this book."From the foreword by Geary A. Product Review
This book shouldnt be unusual, but it is. It should have been written a long time ago, but it wasnt. All books on business process management should be similar to it, but they arent. books that purport to tell people in organizations how to do something should be this clear, but they seldom are. Process management should have already been demystified, but it hasnt been.
Whats exceptional about the book is its extraordinary common sense.
Tom Davenport Professor and Director of research Babson Executive Education, Babson College

Book Description
Successful project management is increasingly vital to all organizations, driven by the demands of global competition, rapid technological growth, and faster time to market (just to name a few). For those in technology fields, project management skills are fast becoming a required core competency. And those who have mastered these skills continue to be in high demand worldwide, commanding higher salaries than those around them. But how does one extend those skills or acquire them in the first place? Fundamentals of Technology Project Management is a great place to start. Of the hundreds of project management books on the market, precious few address the unique needs of the IT project manager. Unlike most other project management books, Fundamentals of Technology Project Management tackles the specific issues that technology professionals must face, such as understanding technology resources, managing project scope and feature creep, and meeting client expectations, among many others. Whether you're a college student, a software engineer, or an IT professional, Fundamentals of Technology Project Management will help you gain a comprehensive understanding of the project management life cycle and learn how to manage it – from first steps on through to intermediate topics (as well as some advanced ones). Author Colleen Garton explains — in easy-to-understand language— not only the what but the how of IT projects. What's more, unlike general project management books, the examples and case studies in this book are all based on technology projects, making them far more relevant to the learner. Also included is a content-rich CD-ROM loaded with features to make the life of any IT project manager (or the IT professional with project management responsibilities) far easier. There are document templates you can use for all phases of the project — from the initial RFP to closing reports. Plus, the author steps you through meeting agendas, status reports, cost analysis, technical specifications, and more. In addition to the document templates, you're provided with PowerPoint slides that can be modified and used for reporting progress to users and management. The continuing rise in importance of project management cannot be denied. Let this book be your guide to becoming a more effective, more efficient IT project manager. With Fundamentals of Technology Project management you will: - Discover the top ten reasons projects fail - Master the five keys to project success - Explore the six phases of the project lifecycle, step by step - Review the documents necessary for good project management and learn how to complete them - Understand the warning signs of a project in trouble and learn how to get it back on track - Learn Quality management and Quality Assurance practices in easy-to-understand terms - Acquire practical ways to develop effective leadership and team-building skills

Book Description
Projects have been around since ancient times. Noah built the ark, Leonardo da Vinci painted the Mona Lisa, Jonas Salk developed the polio vaccine – all projects. Why then, is the topic of project management suddenly of such great interest today? The answer is simple. The audience has changed and the stakes are higher. Successful businesses and organizations create projects that produce desired results in established timeframes with assigned resources. As a result, businesses are increasingly driven to find individuals who can excel in this project-oriented environment. And that's where this guide comes into play. Reading Project management For Dummies could help a diverse group of people, some of which include the following: - Senior managers and junior assistants (the senior managers of tomorrow)
- Experienced project managers and people who've never been on a project team
- People who've had significant project management training and people who've had none
- People who've had years of real-world business and government experience and people who've just entered the workforce
By reading this guide, you'll gain insight into beginning a project, supporting it throughout its life, and bringing it to a successful closure. You'll discover how to manage the uncertainties surrounding a project, and uncover the definitions to the most common project management terms. And you'll figure out how to handle some of the more common project management situations you'll encounter, from dealing with the people involved to organizing the mountains of paperwork. While most businesses are looking for ways to get a better handle on their projects, what no one is saying is that the majority of people who become project managers aren't doing so by choice. Instead, project management is often an unexpected but required progression in their chosen career paths. Think of this guide as a friend or comfortable resource that has more to share each time you crack it open as you experience new situations in which you can apply the knowledge.
Book Info
Delivers simple information for the new project manager on how to deal with the demanding profession. Shows how to develop schedules, build a project team, work within a budget, manage risk and uncertainty, and how to use technology to stay on track with the project. Softcover.
